We trained with Jeff 'the snowman' Monson recently, the event was hosted by David Webb of Tokon Academmy, the session was brilliant!
It always amazes me, whenever you train with someone at the top of their game, basics, basics, basics!
Underhook, underhook, underhook, he had some great techniques utilizing the underhook. Jeff demonstrated some great ways for creating space and then controlling and continually attacking from the bottom.
I thoroughly enjoyed the seminar, from the warm up to the questions and answers at the end and look forward to the next one.
One of the main topics was core stability. Jeff explained that everything comes from the inner body, if that's weak, everything will crumble. He showed some great exercises for developing core strength.

Ok,... So where did the nickname "The Snowman" come from?
The Brazilian Fighters gave him the nickname back in 1999 at Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Grappling Tournament. He came in as an unknown but beat 4 Brazilians in a row to win the title. Each guy was more difficult than the previouis guy. As he went along in the tournament continuing to beat his opponents they said he was like a snowball (white, compact, and rolling and getting bigger and stronger as the tournament went on). Then wouldn't you know it... it then was translated into "Snowman" and it stuck. So that is the story.
