Why Karate?

There are a hundred positive reasons why karate is great for everyone, especially kids.
When a parent is considering enrolling their child, children, or indeed themselves in a karate academy, listed below are some of the amazing benefits that will be gained from a good karate academy.

Physical Fitness

As with adults, one of the most common reasons for enrolling a child into a martial arts class is fitness.
As we all know, childhood obesity rates are climbing, and more and more children are spending a lot to much time playing computer games, or sitting in front of the television. Karate is a great source of exercise that also teaches many skills. Physically, karate can help improve cardiovascular endurance, balance, strength, flexibility, and overall energy levels.

Life Skills

There are many benefits to practicing karate, one of the most important benefits is, "life skills". These skills include discipline, self control, self awareness, patience, confidence, respect of oneself and others, courage, achievement, etc. Our kids need to be strong, confident, good people, karate practice continually promotes this attitude.

There is a sad attitude in today’s society, it’s the, ME, ME, ME, mentality. This line of thought often results in emotionally unhealthy people. Karate students learn that respect for others leads to respect for oneself. This great philosophy is encouraged and promoted continually.

Self Defence

Self defence is one of the most obvious reasons that should come to mind when considering enrolling a child in the martial arts. Peoples interpretation of self defence is normally physical, but the opposite is sometimes more important. Children need to be taught to be aware of their surroundings, resolve situations without conflict, conflict avoidance and obviously, physical self defence movements.

Self-discipline

In most reputable karate academy’s students will not advance through the belt system without self discipline. The kids will soon realise that without focus and determination they will not progress to the coveted Black Belt! Training should be fun, but the determination and dedication to reach black belt is immense. Because of this the kids naturally develop all the positive human attributes.

A Lasting Impact!

Nobody wants their children to sit a home vegetating! But at the same time children should be encouraged not forced into an activity. A good karate academy is a great learning ground for children and can have a tremendous positive impact on a child’s life. The relationships developed with classmates and instructors can last a lifetime.
